Tuesday, 11/27/12
Daily Objective:

  • Review literary terms as used in our novel, including dynamic characters, flashback, indirect & direct characterization, and internal & direct characterization.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • No Pre-test this week since it’s a 30-day review week (Posttest Friday.)
  • Review Character changes in chapters 1-7 (handout from last Monday & Tuesday)
    • Discuss literary term “dynamic character” and have students share their group’s notes on handout
  • Correct answers to Literary Terms Practice Handout (from last Tuesday): flashback, indirect characterization, direct characterization, internal characterization and direct characterization.
    • Have students stand up near seats for “internal”; stay seating for “external” when correcting #15-30 on backpage
    • Choose students to use their own words to define literary terms.
    • Collect for closer review & assessment
  • Remind interested students of Enrichment Group ‘Test-Out’ Opportunity offered tomorrow in class. Be prepared to take a test over the entire book, including literary terms, figurative language and parts of speech. Students who earn a minimum of 90% will be accepted into the Miracle’s Boys “Enrichment Group” to begin later this week.
  • Return graded papers.
  • Distribute study guide for chapter 8 begin listening/reading along with class.
HW:
  • WW pgs 68-69 due tomorrow (Wednesday); pages 70-71 due Thursday; 30-word Unit 3 posttest Friday.
    • Complete 30-word study guide (optional but recommended)
  • Finish reading Chapter 8 and complete the study guide due tomorrow.
  • Prepare for M.B. final test tomorrow, if interested in Enrichment Group ‘Test-Out’ Opp.

Wednesday, 11/28/12

  • Demonstrate mastery of Miracle’s Boys’ plot, author’s technique using literary terms, devices and tone (Optional to some students)
  • Read silently and independently at my desk, monitoring my own comprehension.
  • Respond to literal and inferential questions to demonstrate my understanding and knowledge.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • Check completion of WW homework due today while students are working (stamp)
  • Distribute Miracle’s Boys test to students interested in joining the Enrichment group.
  • Distribute Chapter 9-10 study guide.
    • Independent reading day: Students not taking the “Test-Out” opportunity will read silently at their desks and complete the accompanying study guides due tomorrow: Chapters 9 + 10.
HW:
  • Finish reading Chapters 9 +10 and complete study guides, if not finished in class.
  • WW pages 70-71 due tomorrow (Thursday)
  • Prepare for Friday’s WW test over all of Unit 3 (30-words)

Thursday, 11/29/12

  • Demonstrate current knowledge of M.B. and completion of assignments.
  • Check current understanding of U3 words & make corrections as necessary
  • Continue to review and study Unit 3 words in a group game.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • Chapter 8-10 “Pop Quiz” –grade together. (Congratulations to anyone checking the wiki page to see this in advance!) J
    • Stamp WW workbooks while students are working on quiz.
  • Correct WW answers too.
  • Possible activity: Word Wisdom B-I-N-G-O review game.

  • Enrichment group: Meet & greet—discuss expectations of the group.
  • Discuss study guide questions and answers to chapters 8-10.
  • Begin Chapter 11
